All mammals are capable of contacting the rabies virus. It is highly recommended that a professional trapper be hired to deal with these species. If contact has been made with a human or a domestic animal it is required in most circumstances that the animal be sent to the respective states laboratory for testing. The testing service is free and transportation of the animal is often provided by local animal control or health authorities.

If local authorizes are unwilling to provide the transportation service, NEW will properly prepare the animal for testing and transport the animal to the lab for a fee or give directions to the client in the event he or she wishes to provide transport.
